Let me begin by acknowledging that I feel that there is considerably more going on behind the proverbial curtains than the American public is led to believe, however, I do also feel that many cynical people feel the government is more corrupt than it really is. While many may argue that the government is really inefficient and does little to nothing to help the population, one cannot dispute the facts: poverty among elders is at record lows, we have substantially better air and water qualities, etc. I am not denying that the government is inherently inefficient, but as a generalization, I feel society functions fairly well. Government officials (well a majority of them), for the most part do their jobs with complete integrity. There is a large amount of officials who are corrupt and give the government a bad rap. The reasons that the American public allows this phenomenon to happen is that there is a considerable amount of ignorance and propoganda in the media. IN addition, these corrupt officials tend to perform their deeds very surruptitiously. As for a good leader, I feel that it is fairly tough to characterize a good leader. History has shown that effective leaders tend to be charismatic, which is why people will vote for them. Personally, I look for intelligence, poise, ethic, and integrity in a leader. I feel that most americans look for similar qualities in a leader. Effective leaders rarely quit before the end, and have tend to have an incredible ability to endure. Charisma and star qualities are undeniably important, but because of the advent of mass media, I feel that such qualities are now a bit pretentious.

3rd quarter slump

This blog prompt has little to do with the facts and details of US Gov, rather the reality of the dreaded 3rd quarter slump!!! Having finally gotten myself caught up (yes I am guilty to a point), I find myself amused (note, not yet annoyed) that 10 members of this AP class are currently MNA!!! It appears that even the brightest class I have had in years, is not immune to the temptation to ease back at this point in their senior year. I must admit to being a bit baffled, as the other half of the class is going stronger than the first semester...high B's and more A's.....

My question in part is this....Does government continue to function as it should, when the elected officials don't do their jobs???? Why would the American public allow this to continue? The second part of the question has to do with the current chapter...What are the characteristics of a good President? A leader? Do they quit before the game is over??

Yes I do expect some thoughtful responses!!!
